The School of Medicine and Pharmacy at Tra Vinh University was officially established on December 29, 2023, under Decision No. 13 by the University Council, through the merger of the Faculty of Medicine – Pharmacy and the Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology. People’s Physician, Professor, and Doctor Ta Van Tram was appointed as the School’s Principal.

As a specialized academic unit, the School of Medicine and Pharmacy is dedicated to training healthcare professionals and conducting scientific research with a strong focus on clinical application. Its mission is to build an innovative, adaptive, and high-quality school–institute model for the region.

The School provides multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary training across the health sciences, engages in scientific research and technology transfer, and collaborates closely with hospitals, medical centers, and local healthcare facilities to support community health needs.

It is the fourth member school of Tra Vinh University, alongside the School of Economics–Law, the School of Southern Khmer Language–Culture–Arts and Humanities, and the School of Pedagogical Practice.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoa, Rector of Tra Vinh University, emphasized that the establishment of the School aligns with the university’s long-term development strategy—toward becoming an advanced, globally oriented institution. He also highlighted its role in enhancing medical human resource training to meet comprehensive community healthcare demands.

During the ceremony, the university announced the Provincial People’s Committee’s decision to classify Tra Vinh University Hospital as a Level II hospital. The hospital, built on a 13,000 m² campus with an investment of nearly VND 200 billion, originated from the university’s General Clinic.

After more than five years of development, the hospital now employs 172 permanent staff, including 51 doctors, 13 pharmacists, 57 nurses, 6 midwives, 16 medical technicians, and other essential personnel. Its structure comprises a Board of Directors, 5 functional departments, and 16 clinical and specialized divisions.

Beyond providing medical services, Tra Vinh University Hospital also functions as a key practical training site for health science students. It conducts scientific research, participates in public health and epidemiological studies, and collaborates with local healthcare units on disease prevention, epidemic control, and community health education.
