The School of Medicine at Tan Tao University (TTU) achieved a major milestone in 2019 when it was officially recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) in the United States. This recognition marks a turning point for TTU’s medical training, affirming that its graduates meet international standards and are eligible to take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).
The ECFMG certification system, established in the 1950s, ensures the quality of medical graduates trained outside the U.S. With this achievement, TTU joins a select group of Vietnamese medical universities—only 11 nationwide—that have students qualified to sit for the USMLE. Notably, TTU is the only university among them that offers a structured curriculum specifically designed to prepare students for the exam.
In 2019, one-third of TTU’s medical graduates planned to go to the United States for USMLE preparation. The university supports them through personalized study plans, mentoring from experienced physicians, and supplementary training programs to help them navigate this rigorous examination.
ECFMG recognition also solidifies TTU’s position among reputable medical institutions in Vietnam and aligns its program with global medical education standards. TTU continues to invest in quality training through international exchange programs, overseas clinical rotations, and collaborations with foreign medical professionals who teach and work at the university.
