History & Foundation

Dong A University was officially established by Decision No. 644/QĐ-TTg on May 21, 2009, issued by the Prime Minister of Vietnam. Located in Danang—a place long known for academic excellence, creativity, and resilience—the university was named “Dong A” (meaning East Asia) with the vision of becoming a regional educational institution. Its symbol, the Sakura blossom, represents aspiration, growth, and youthful energy.

The founder, Nguyen Thi Anh Dao, grew up in the mountainous area of Tam Ky (now Tam Ky City, Quang Nam). Despite challenging circumstances, she excelled academically, graduating with distinction from the University of Hue. She later earned a master’s degree in Educational Management with top honors and was promoted directly to Research Student status. Her philosophy—“study and work, work and study”; “to go is to reach, to work is to succeed”—continues to guide the university’s spirit.

Dong A University originally began in 2002 as the Private Professional High School of Industrial Arts. With the motto “students’ success is teachers’ happiness; industry success is the school’s happiness,” the institution aimed to supply skilled human resources to surrounding businesses. Over time, it expanded its academic scope, upgraded its facilities, and transitioned into a university that aligned more closely with the founder’s broader vision.

Development & Expansion

Nearly three years after receiving university status—and a decade after its beginnings as a vocational school—Dong A University prepared extensively for long-term growth.

The university now operates from two main campuses in Danang:

  • A central-city campus, one of the largest and most well-equipped among local private and public institutions

  • A second campus in Hoa Hai, 5 km south of the city center, spanning 135,000 square meters

Expansion plans are also underway for new campuses in:

  • Quang Nam Province – 91,600 m²

  • Dak Lak Province – 100,000 m²

Alongside infrastructure development, Dong A University continues to invest in enhancing its teaching staff, improving academic programs, and building a modern learning environment that prepares students for successful careers.

Future Vision

Dong A University encourages future generations to pursue happiness through learning, hard work, and contributions to society. The institution is envisioned as a shared legacy—belonging to students, faculty, the community, and especially the descendants of those who helped build it.

Despite challenges ahead, the university remains committed to growth, excellence, and innovation. Its belief is unwavering: with dedication and unity, Dong A University will continue progressing toward lasting success.

Symbol of Dong A University — The Sakura

The Sakura flower symbolizes the beauty, resilience, and creativity admired across East Asia. At Dong A University:

  • The five petals represent the nurturing hands of teachers and the support of the community.

  • They also symbolize the Vietnamese student as a citizen of five continents—ready for global integration and eager to explore new horizons.

The Sakura serves as a reminder of unity, dedication, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge. The university also awards the prestigious Sakura Award and manages the Sakura Talents Fund, both honoring individuals who contribute to community growth and academic excellence.

Path to Success — Graduation Development

Every individual begins with dreams—of becoming a scientist, teacher, writer, or professional. Turning those dreams into reality requires a combination of knowledge, skills, experience, and perseverance. Dong A University helps students build this “road to success” by guiding them in choosing the right academic path, developing their talents, and gaining real-world experience.

The journey to success remains open to all who are committed to learning, improving, and distinguishing themselves in a rapidly changing world.
