History
Fifteen years ago, Dai Nam University officially began operations following the Prime Minister’s approval under Decision No. 1535/QD-TTg DHDN. Since then, November 14 has been celebrated as the university’s founding anniversary.
The institution’s journey began in June 2005, when Dr. Le Dac Son—then General Director of VPBank—joined hands with 12 scientists to develop the establishment proposal under the Vietnam Construction Association. Over the next two years, the founders worked to meet all requirements necessary for government approval.
Their efforts focused on four major tasks:
-
Developing clear scientific and economic justifications for establishing Dai Nam University, aligned with the national higher education planning and the academic programs it aimed to offer.
-
Building a qualified academic team, ensuring faculty members met the professional standards set by the Ministry of Education and Training.
-
Proving financial capability, including raising VND 30 billion—the minimum charter capital required at that time—to fund the construction and operation of the new university. (Today, the minimum requirement is VND 1,000 billion.)
-
Securing infrastructure, demonstrated through obtaining approval for 10.5 hectares of land from the Ha Tay Provincial People’s Committee to develop the future Dai Nam University campus.
In June 2007, after completing all documentation and meeting regulatory requirements, the Founding Council submitted the official application to the Ministry of Education and Training and the Government Office. After nearly six months of evaluation, the proposal was forwarded to the Prime Minister.
On November 14, 2007, the Prime Minister signed the decision establishing Dai Nam University. The Ministry of Education and Training concurrently issued its recognition decision, and Dr. Le Dac Son was appointed the university’s first Chairman of the Board of Directors.
