Vietnam Military Medical University (VMMU), also known as the School of Military Medicine, is a highly respected institution recognized for its excellence in medical education. Established in 1948 through a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense, it initially served as a military medical school dedicated to training medical officers. Over the past 74 years, VMMU has continued to grow, contributing significantly to national healthcare and military medicine.
In late 1982, the institution was renamed Vietnam Military Medical College and expanded its academic offerings to include general practitioner training. Although it is relatively younger compared to other medical universities in the country, VMMU consistently ranks among the top five medical universities in Vietnam. To date, it has trained more than 25,000 doctors and pharmacists and over 90,000 medical officers. The university has also conducted more than 900 research projects and completed over 200 innovation initiatives, earning multiple national awards for scientific achievement.
Admission to VMMU is notably competitive due to specific requirements related to height, weight, and vision. As a result, the university selects only around 210 candidates each year for public health programs and approximately 400 applicants for general practitioner training.
